Canals

"Canals are man-made water ways.

They were built many years ago.

The two main canals are the Royal Canal and the Grand Canal.

There are different plants and animals you can see along the canals.

The Grand Canal

There are fish, swans, ducks, rushes and reeds in the canal.

The canals were used for many years as a form of transport.

Guinness was delivered on the Guinness barge many years ago.

There are locks in the canal which are opened to allow the water to fill up so the boats can sail through.

Some people use the canal to dispose of their rubbish. This causes the water to become polluted and this in turn affects all forms of life in the canal".
