This photograph is of an old High Street butchers shop
from about 1912, which was run by Albert Groves. Unlike today’s shops Albert
Groves did everything himself. He bought the animals, slaughtered them, made |
|||
different things like sausages
and then sold the meat in his shop.
After a few years his son Jack took over his job. The family continued
the business until 1957 when Jack Groves retired.

This butchers was run by Colin
Sevier and Bill French in 1991 and the photograph shows them outside their
shop opposite Victoria Avenue. All
the meat is stored inside the shop because it is hygienic.
Today Alan Warwick runs the shop.
