The statue of Princess Diana
was donated to Walsall by the sculptor Andrew Walsh who owns the funeral
directors. It was made in India. The statue has caused a lot of fuss
because of things that councillor Mike Bird said about it. Mr Bird said, “it looks like Diana Ross
not like Princess Diana because it is black marble not white.” He also said, “ We were led |

to believe it would be made
from marble, but white and virginal looking, but it’s nothing more than DEMONIC and creepy. I fear we have been made to look rather foolish and I know
that, as one of the first of it’s kind in Britain the statue will come under
close scrutiny.” The statue will now
be put in the civic centre in Walsall town centre. The Times newspaper reported the Spencer family as saying it is
“wholly inappropriate.” The story was
even broadcast on national radio. |
