LEAMORE

The name Leamore means ‘moorland used for pasture’ and a small settlement started in the mid 18th century.  Mining was the main industry.  Leamore lies just to the south of Bloxwich.

These photographs include a view of the Rosum Cinema, now a Bingo Hall, which was opened in 1936. Earlier entertainments included horse racing, which took place on the site of the Leamore playing fields in the 19th century, and soccer teams such as Bloxwich Strollers and Bloxwich F.C. who have played on the ground behind the Red Lion for most of this century.

Two of these views illustrate the modern developments in Leamore. A council estate was built in the area in the 1920’s. These photographs were taken in 1964.
