Schools in Bloxwich
The school that we attend is called TP Riley and it is near Bloxwich Town Centre. It is quite a big school and there are pupils who attend it from lots of places nearby.
In Bloxwich, children start their education by going to nursery school and then when they are five years old they move up to infants school and then onto junior school. When children are 11 years old they start secondary school. TP Riley is one of the secondary schools in Bloxwich. Frank F Harrison and Sneyd are two other schools.
The pupils at TP Riley have to wear a uniform and there are timetables for the pupils, so that they know what lessons they have. TP Riley School also has a library.
Old Schools in Bloxwich
This was probably not the first National
School in Bloxwich. In a book by E.
L. Glew it says that a school was built in 1828.
It describes it as a neat, brick building with a handsome clock on top.
In 1860 it was demolished and in 1861 a new building took its place, and it is
these classrooms that are still in use today.
The school still has a faded picture of the original building.
During the Second World War the school helped by sending the older pupils
to help on local farms when there weren’t enough adults to do the work.
In 1947, during a very severe winter, when there wasn’t much coal and
lots of power cuts, pupils had to be sent home, and it was even closed for a
while. The bottom photo was taken
in May 2000.
