Welcome to Ballyfermot

"Ballyfermot is a very big place, it has lots of shops, play areas etc. Ballyfermot is on a hill in Dublin. Ballyfermot's nick name is Ballyer. It is outside the city centre too. Ballyfermot has a lot of cars and factories. In fact, it is a very big place". (Jennifer Langfield)

"Ballyfermot got its name from an ancient Celtic chieftain or a farmer called Diarmuid MacGilla-Machalog who lived in this area around the year 1170 A.D. The area was originally known as "Baile Diarmuid" or Dermot's Town. Through time and the introduction of English it eventually became known as Ballyfermot". (Claire Byrne)
